Jewish Quarter - Self-guide
circular route marked for wheelchair visitors
General information:
1. Private vehicles adapted for handicapped
passengers, or any vehicle up to the size of a minibus can reach
the parking area for the Jewish Quarter,
via the Jaffa Gate (in the near future
a special parking area for handicapped-adapted vehicles will be
provided. At this time, access to the parking area must be arranged
in advance with the Jewish Quarter Community
Center).
2. Buses can park in the Mt.
Zion parking lot only (this is the only option currently
available). Wheelchair passengers will require assistance from
Mt. Zion to the Jewish
Quarter parking lot.
3. The tour is appropriate for individual
visitors and for groups of 4 - 5 visitors in wheelchairs.

of the year.
7. When touring in summer, take a
hat and drinking water.
8. Length of circular trip - about
3km.
9. Duration: between 3 hours (excluding
visits to the sites) and 5+ hours (including visits to the sites).
10. When visiting the Western
Wall and the Western Wall Tunnels,
an additional half-day is recommended. The tour lasts about 4
hours.
11. There are two wheelchair accessible
toilets inside the Jewish Quarter.
a. Plugot Hakotel Street (between
Hayehudim Street and the "Wide
Wall" site). b. Tiferet Yisrael Street,
opposite the Burnt House. 12.
The Jewish Quarter offers, cafes,
restaurants and fast-food stands, some of which are wheelchair
accessible.
Sites along the route:
1. Hayehudim Street.
2. The Hurva
Synagogue.
3. Hashalshelet
Street.
4. The Cardo.
- Access to the Cardo is from the
north end of Hayehudim Street. Just
before the intersection with David Street,
turn left (opposite Cafe Ba'ashura),
and then left again into the Cardo.
The Cardo is about 180 meters long.
When you reach the end of the Cardo route
(the uncovered section), return to where you entered the Cardo.

7. The Rachel
Yana'it Center for Jerusalem Studies. Offers an exhibition
and illustrations of findings from the period of the First Temple,
as well as an audio-visual presentation on a three-dimensional
model of Jerusalem from the period of the First Temple. The presentation
lasts about 25 minutes. A guide is available. The visit must be
coordinated in advance because the number of places for wheelchairs
is limited.
8. Tiferet
Yisrael Street and the Tiferet Yisrael
Synagogue. Wheelchair access requires assistance, and is
available from Hakara'im Street only,
as far as the front wall.
9. The "Bazaar".
10. The Burnt
House - the house of Cathros. The site is accessible by
lift. Visits must be coordinated in advance.
11. The Jewish
Quarter Community Center.
12. The Kotel
Yeshiva - the Herodian Quarter.
